Research:  Issues related to the experiences and adjustment of youth in the justice system; the rights of children and youth, including understanding of and attitudes towards children’s rights; and evolving legal capacities (e.g., adjudicative competence, competence to consent to treatment)

 He is currently involved in a project to validate the Ontario Ministry of Education’s Steps to English Proficiency assessment tool. He is also conducting a research review on English Language Learners’ academic trajectories.

Dr. Wheelahan’s research interests include community colleges; tertiary education policy; student equity, student pathways, qualifications frameworks and credit transfer in tertiary education; the role of theoretical knowledge in curriculum; community college teacher development; and, the relationship between education and the labor market.

Dr. Lee has two major foci of research. The first focus is on the development of lying, while the second focus of his research is on face processing in children and adults.

Dr. Pedretti’s research interests focus on, science education; science-technology-society-environment(STSE) education; environmental and outdoor education; action research; teacher development; learning science in non-school settings such as museums and science centers; video case methods and pre-service education.

Research Interests: 
Ruth’s research has mainly related to Chinese higher education and educational relations between East Asia and the West. She has been interested in the ways in which cultural values and epistemology from Eastern civilizations may provide a resource for new thinking in global higher education development. She is also interested in the intersection between Asian ways of knowing and women’s ways of knowing, and questions of gender in cross-cultural leadership, topics stimulated by her personal experience of institutional leadership in an Asian context.

Dr. Gaskell’s research and publications have focused on a variety of policy issues in education, including the organization of secondary education in Canada; school choice; the impact of feminism on educational policy and practice; educational approaches to poverty; the links between education and the workplace; the politics of research and policy.
